Summer 2006 Art Camps
with Cheryl Chesnut

I have taught summer art camps since 2002. This year I have added two new elements to my camps: I will be having four art camps in the Alaska Botanical Gardens and two of those camps will be for adults! In the past, I have had my art camps in or outside my studio, so being at the Botanical Gardens is a perfect blending of two of my passions; art and gardening! It will be lots of work, but I am very excited and looking forward to it!

I teach with the belief that we all have artistic ability. Art should be a fun experience and bring joy to the artist. My goal is to not only to give the student exposure to art and make them feel successful but to push those with artistic experience to the next level. My teaching is based on principles and elements of design; I begin each lesson with some drawing exercises, to teach hand-eye coordination, loosen up in preparation for the lesson and then move onto some basics of watercolor which will be the primary media. For those students (children and adults) with more experience in watercolors, I will teach more advanced techniques. The pleasure of small classes is that I am able to adapt my lesson based on the student's needs and ability. Students should be on time and work hard. Camp materials will be of professional and/or art student grade and will be provided unless otherwise stated.

If a student already has art materials, and would like to be able to reduce their costs, please call and the option can be discussed. Old shirts to use as smocks will also be provided for children or the student may bring their own. If more information is needed or if there are any questions please contact Cheryl via email cheryl@cherylchesnut.com or by phone (907) 522-2029.
