Water colors and brushes on papaya painting paper

Honorable Member of the Alaska Watercolor Society

Cheryl Chesnut is an artist who was raised in Alaska. She receives her main inspiration from her beautiful surroundings and resides in Anchorage with her husband. She works as a full-time artist, out of her Spreading Tree Studio. Reach out to Cheryl to learn more about Spreading Tree Studio.

This Alaskan loves all forms of art but considers herself mainly a painter. Her primary media is watercolors. She has migrated toward landscapes and portrait/figure subjects.

A watercolor artist, Cheryl has lived and worked in other states and Scandinavia. These different settings have greatly influenced her art. Apart from the United States, she has painted/drawn in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Italy, New Zealand and Australia.

"I feel I am just as excited today about art as when I was a child."

Ms. Chesnut's professional degrees are in nursing; nurse-practitioner/certified nurse-midwife. She has taken university courses in art and design but her primary learning mode was through mentors, workshops, reading and practicing art. As Michelangelo said to one of his students, "Draw Antonio, draw and do not waste time." and she tries to follow his advice.
Cheryl teaches summer art camps and after-school art programs through community schools. Contact Cheryl for information on private/group art lessons or look under "Events."
Cheryl is a full member of the Alaska Watercolor Society and the Alaska Artist's Guild. She has won several awards including 2nd place at the 1994 Anchorage Fur Rendezvous Juried Watercolor show and 5th honorable mention in the 1996 XXIII Annual All Alaska Juried Watercolor Show. She is a founding member of Group 5 Artists, a local art group. Cheryl founded Tuesdays Art in the Park, a free summer program encouraging artistic expression in Anchorage. It is open to all.
Ms. Chesnut's work has been locally shown in solo and group shows. In 2000 she had a solo art show in Denmark. She sells her art from her studio and does private and corporate commissioned artwork, especially portraits. With advanced arrangements, she welcomes small group tours to her studio. You may contact her for a private showing, for a studio tour or for further information.
